Walking Ruminations

Blogs or Posts, David's Writing

It looks like I need to write on a regular basis about my efforts to exercise.  I’m just warning my reader or reader(s).

I’m hoping that this will help me become more motivated to do the things I need to do to lose weight and regain muscle and so forth.

Today was a rainy day but it looked a lot wetter than it actually was and I went for a half hour walk around the neighborhood.  I did the “hilly walk”  route and my lower back was killing me practically the whole way.  This means I need to go start using that machine at Westwood on a regular basis.  It focuses on those lower back  muscles and makes them stronger.

In any case the walk did happen and it’s a start.

Did anything the least bit interesting happen on this walk?  No sorry.  I did hear a bird sound that was different.  I thought maybe it was a chicken but when I looked around nothing was there.  Would someone have a chicken in their yard around here?

Somebody drove by in a little white car and they were going too fast for a residential neighborhood.  This is not very interesting either.

I wanted to call B and have her come get me because my back hurt but I didn’t do it.  There is pain and then there is pain.  I prefer going with the lesser pain.

I was thinking during this walk that when I had thoughts like the one I just mentioned the walk was much more difficult.  If  I just thought about Lord Of The Rings Online, for example, the walk became easier.  So I stopped having certain thoughts.  Probably I would still be out there sitting on a log by the side of the road if I had not started using this technique.

Someone wrote a book recently about losing a ton of weight using an exercise program that started in her back yard.  She walked around her clothes line because people gave her looks and made comments about her weight.   I guess she went on to develop other strategies as well.  I haven’t read the book but I’m sure it’s available on Amazon.com.

I couldn’t do it that way.  I need to start the walk when I’m feeling pretty good and get a good distance from the house before the pain starts to get bad.  Then it’s just a matter of making it back to the house.  If I was in the backyard the walk would be about half as long for reasons that are pretty clear.

So that’s the way it went today.  We are going down to the beach in the next few weeks and it will be fun to take some photos down there.  We were not able to go at all last year because of the construction so we are looking forward to it.
